About the programme "Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering"

Our Department of Chemical Engineering offers a two-year MSc programme in Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering that raises versatile engineers for a broad spectrum of industries such as chemical, biochemical, biotechnological, petroleum, food, energy, and environmental, or pharmaceutical. Our graduates are specialists in chemical engineering with the ability to communicate with team members having different expertise.

Our programme meets the highest European education quality requirements. It is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic and fully complies with the European education requirements based on the Bologna process. The graduates of the programme earn an MSc degree in chemical engineering.

Prerequisitives for the programme:

Bachelor degree in chemical engineering or a related field (process engineering, mechanical engineering, bioengineering, environmental engineering, chemical technologies, chemistry, physical chemistry, etc..). All students who have completed or are about to complete their bachelor studies in any related programme are welcome to apply.

Goal of the programme

The students undergo intensive engineering training to gain a strong foundation of chemical engineering and to develop independent and critical thinking to solve various (bio-)chemical engineering problems. The program graduates are versatile engineers sought in many not only engineering fields.

The programme builds on these 3 pillars:

(i) a thorough understanding of the underlying theory

(ii) teaching various engineering approaches, helping reach results when fundamental science becomes too difficult,

(iii) instilling the student with practical skills through laboratory and theoretical chemical-engineering projects.

 complete curriculum

The graduates of the programme are prepared to analyze chemical engineering processes, design chemical equipment, and identify optimal process parameters for the economical, safe, and ecological operation of chemical technologies.

Keren’s Experience: Studying Chemical Engineering in Prague

Keren’s Experience: Studying Chemical Engineering in Prague

I feel very fortunate to have pursued my master's degree in Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering at the University of Chemistry and Technology. It has been one of the most transformative experiences of my academic journey. I was impressed by the university’s strong emphasis on both theoretical knowledge and practical application. What truly inspired me, alongside having access to modern research facilities and well-equipped laboratories, was the encouragement for students to engage in hands-on experiments and real-world problem-solving. As an international student facing challenges in adapting to a new environment, the university’s welcoming atmosphere, supportive faculty, and international student community facilitated a smooth and rewarding transition. The professors and faculty members are not only knowledgeable but also approachable, always willing to offer guidance and mentorship. Living in Prague, a city rich in history and culture, has greatly enhanced this experience, allowing me to immerse myself in a new way of life while studying. I feel truly thankful for the opportunity to study here and to be part of such a vibrant and inspiring academic community.

My experience at University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague has been a rollercoaster ride of growth, opportunities and challenges. The campus is vibrant and diverse, with students from all over the world. On my first day, I was welcomed with open arms by both staff and fellow students. The first few days were overwhelming as I tried to juggle classes, social events and extracurricular activities. However, I quickly found my footing and embraced the university experience.

Living in the residence halls was the best decision I made. Having the freedom to explore and socialize with my peers was invaluable. Also, the cost of living at dorms and tuition fee are both affordable.

The academic demands were initially daunting, but with the help of my professors and teaching assistants, I quickly got up to speed as my professors were knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects. The lectures were stimulating, and the curriculum was rigorous but relevant. I never felt bored because the academic projects were based on real industrial problems. I had the opportunity to attend seminars specially designed to learn new chemical engineering software. The syllabus was challenging but manageable as long as I kept up with my readings and attended classes regularly.

As my university experience progressed, I realized that the knowledge I was gaining wasn't only in the lecture hall. It was also being acquired through the consultations I had with my professors, the challenges I faced while juggling a busy schedule, and the skills I learned while working on various chemical engineering projects. I gradually saw myself growing and learning things that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. As a result I was awarded with the 'university scholarship- excellent study results'.

The university provided me with ample opportunities, and I seized them, which ultimately helped me acquire new skills, form new relationships, and broaden my horizons. Perhaps the most significant accomplishment was that before graduation I was able to secure a full-time job in one of the reputable company in Czechia.

In conclusion, my university experience was more than just a period of study; it was a life-changing journey that prepared me for the future. The knowledge, skills, and experiences that I acquired during my time there continue to benefit me in my personal and professional life. University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague has been both a challenging and rewarding experience, shaping me into a well-rounded and informed individual ready to take on the world.

Overall, the University was much more than an academic institution. It was a community, a home away from home, and a launchpad for my future. I would recommend anyone to give it a try and discover what awaits them at the university.
