Talented Adéla Podholová

At our faculty, we have long been committed to supporting young talented students and opening the door for them to engage in real research. One inspiring example is Adéla Podholová, a high school student from Liberec who, at just 16 years old, is already working in the Chobotix laboratory under the supervision of František Štěpánek and Suada Djukaj.

Her research focuses on the interactions between intestinal mucins and pharmaceutical compounds and their impact on drug bioavailability. Adéla is not only an enthusiastic young scientist but also a highly active individual. She has, for example, presented at the Global Women’s Breakfast at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague and received the “Child of the Czech Republic” award presented by UNICEF.

She achieved notable success in the FameLab Czech Republic Academy competition for high school students, where she won second place with her presentation “Mucins as a Barrier to Drug Absorption: The Story of an Overly Strong Bond”, in which she engagingly explained why some drugs do not work in the body as expected.

Adéla also won the national round of the EXPO SCIENCE AMAVET competition with her project “Interaction of Intestinal Mucins with Pharmaceutical Substances” and has advanced to the international finals of the International Science and Engineering Fair, which will take place this year in Phoenix, USA.

We warmly congratulate Adéla on her achievements and wish her the best of luck in the international competition!
